Quiet Confidence for your people

On-site sessions for care, health, security, education and community teams, built around the situations your people actually face.

When thinking goes offline, the body takes over

When someone suddenly grabs an arm or corners a colleague, adrenaline floods the system. Fine motor skills fade and rehearsed words disappear.

Quiet Confidence trains the body's responses directly, through practice rather than slides. People learn to stay balanced when grabbed, to protect without force, and to default to safer positions, so calm is available when it is needed most.

It sits alongside the training your organisation already has. It fills the physical, embodied part that frameworks and policies cannot reach on their own.

  • Staying balanced when grabbed or pushed

  • Protecting without force or restraint

  • Defaulting to safer positioning

  • Keeping the person in front of you safe too

Shaped around your people

Every programme follows the same four stages, adapted to your setting.

  1. 1

    Understanding your situation

We start by learning what your people actually face: the environments, the risk patterns, the people they support. Nothing in the programme should feel abstract.

  2. 2

    Building the foundations

In-person sessions on grounding, stacking and volume, practised until they become the body's default.

    • Staying balanced and oriented when grabbed or pushed
    • Protecting without force or restraint
    • Positioning that becomes automatic
    • Working when adrenaline has taken away fine motor skills
  3. 3

    Practising real situations

Scenarios drawn from your team's own experience, in their own spaces, with their own constraints.

    • Hair pulling during personal care
    • Being cornered in a small room
    • A sudden grab while helping someone
    • More than one person escalating at once
  4. 4

    Making it last

Time to reflect, settle and consolidate. People leave with short reset exercises they can use during a shift, long after the programme ends.

Start small, or go deep

Foundation programme

The core of working together. Around 24 hours of training across four on-site sessions, usually spread over 4 to 12 months. Each session stands on its own and builds on the last, so people who miss one are not left behind and new starters can join at any point.

Deepening sessions

For teams ready to go further, in smaller groups. Topics include advanced de-escalation, trauma exposure and recovery, leadership under pressure, and how a team responds together.

Ongoing support

A longer relationship, with one or two refresher sessions a year, onboarding for new staff, and support after difficult incidents.

  • On-site

Sessions happen where your people work, with their own spaces and constraints.

  • Up to 25 people

Groups are kept small. Teams can split so half train while the other half covers the floor.

  • Your timeline

Sessions fit around your roster. There is no need to close for a training day.

  • Across Aotearoa

Based in Auckland and delivering on-site around New Zealand.

This was one of the best-received courses we've ever run. Staff engagement was extremely high, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. I would gladly attend a full session myself.

Things people often ask

Is this self-defence?

No. Quiet Confidence teaches calm, grounded responses — protection through awareness, positioning and redirection, not fighting. The aim is to keep everyone safe, including the person who is distressed.

Will it replace the training we already have?

No. It works alongside your existing frameworks. Most training prepares people to think through a situation; Quiet Confidence prepares the body for the moment thinking goes offline.

What if some of our people are nervous about physical work?

Every session is built around consent and psychological safety. No one is pushed into contact they are not ready for, and everything progresses gradually.

Who has Quiet Confidence worked with?

Mental health and disability services, security teams, schools, and community groups — including Community Connections, SLS Security, King's College, Kelston Boys High School and the YMCA.

What does it cost?

Foundation programmes start from $10,000, depending on team size, location and how much the programme is tailored. A shorter 90-minute session for one or two teams is also available as a first step, and is credited toward a programme if you go ahead.
